On 2/15/2012, the House of Representatives passed legislation that aims to improve and modernize the Commonwealth’s government and finance administration.  This legislation expands the oversight of the Treasurer and the Secretary of Administration and Finance, creates a new State Finance and Governance Board, and requires the monitoring of future trends in the budget planning process.  “I commend Chairman Kocot of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight and the rest of my colleagues in the House for the redrafting and passage of this bill,” said House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo (D – Winthrop). “This legislation streamlines our Commonwealth’s government and finance administration, while also promoting transparency and accountability.”   Representative Peter V. Kocot (D – Northampton), Chairman of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, added, “I am confident that the passage of this legislation will lead to performance-based policy-making that will benefit every taxpayer in Massachusetts.”
